Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Bulletin of Education and Language (BEL) permits the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly publishing, in accordance with ethical standards recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Authors’ Use of AI

  1. AI tools may be used only for language editing, grammar checking, or formatting support.
  2. AI tools must not be listed as authors and cannot replace human intellectual contribution.
  3. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the manuscript.
  4. AI tools must not be used to generate research data, results, images, or references, nor to manipulate content in an unethical manner.

Disclosure Requirement

  1. Any use of AI tools must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript (e.g., in the Acknowledgements or Methods section).
  2. Failure to disclose AI use may be treated as a breach of publication ethics.

Peer Review and Editorial Use

  1. Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to public AI tools.
  2. Editorial and peer-review decisions are made solely by human editors, not by AI systems.

Ethical Compliance

  1. Misuse of AI (e.g., plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification) will be handled according to BEL’s publication ethics policy and COPE guidelines, which may result in rejection, correction, or retraction.

Policy Updates

  1. BEL may revise this policy as AI technologies and international standards evolve.
